Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Thor: Ragnarok are coming to Netflix in June 2018

by Brandon Russell | May 25, 2018May 25, 2018 6:00 am PDT

Netflix has unveiled the list of movies coming and going in June 2018, and it’s once again rife with great content, from Netflix originals to third-party classics. And in case you have yet to see Thor: Ragnarok, that’s on there, too.

Speaking of Marvel, Marvel’s Luke Cage: Season 2 is being added next month. The second season’s trailer was recently unleashed, revealing a new character who has sinister plans for Harlem—and some seriously cool powers. Nobody said protecting Harlem would be easy.

The streaming service is also adding Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the latest entry into Disney’s new trilogy. The film picks up where The Force Awakens left off, with the First Order rising up from its unlikely defeat at the hands of the Resistance.

The Last Jedi also features a captivating appearance from Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker and Carrier Fisher as Princess Leia. The movie was divisive when it was released late last year, but there’s no arguing it’s one of the more daring entries in the storied franchise.

Below are some of our top highlights for Netflix in June 2018. You can also find the full list of additions, along with what’s leaving Netflix, down below.

Highlights

Thor: Ragnarok

Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Ragnarok is a reboot of sorts for the character. Instead of being a dramatic, Shakespearean God, Thor embraces his comedic side by becoming a lovable and fumbling jock. This is the movie that laid the groundwork for Thor becoming one of the best characters in Avengers: Infinity War.

The Departed

The Departed is a perfect example as to why Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio make such a good team. The two Hollywood juggernauts are on top of their game in this tale about an undercover cop who infiltrates an infamous gang in Boston. Fair warning: This movie isn’t for the faint of heart.

The King’s Speech

It’s hard to imagine Colin Firth in a role other than as the smooth superspy in Kingsman. But he earned himself praise for his turn in The King’s Speech, a historical drama about King Georce VI, who struggles with a speech impediment.

Glow: Season 2

What wasn’t to like about the first season of Glow? The show follows a group of women who start their own wrestling league. It’s filled with great drama and plenty of comedy, led by Alison Brie as failed actor Ruth Wilder.

Marvel’s Luke Cage: Season 2

The second season of Luke Cage will see the character earn a reputation as Harlem’s savior. But he’s soon faced by a new threat who possesses some very familiar powers. You can see the first trailer right here. Needless to say, it’s going to be good.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Featuring Luke Skywalker and a surprise appearance by Yoda’s Force ghost, Star Wars: The Last Jedi took a lot of risks with the source material, creating something unlike any Star Wars movie before it. We loved it, but not every hardcore Star Wars fan was happy with the final product. You be the judge when it hits Netflix next month.
