RED’s masterplan for the Hydrogen One is slowly coming into focus after months of secrecy. After showing a prototype of the device off to press last weekend, the company announced a partnership with camera company Lucid that will produce the second known mod for the Hydrogen One phone: an 8K 3D camera attachment.
The first prototype of the mod has been shown off and it does not look like the normal mods we’re accustomed to. It’s a huge black box with super wide lens that will use Lucid’s 3D Fusion Technology to stitch together images into a file that will work with the Hydrogen One. The camera will also be able to make content for the Hydrogen One’s 4V holographic display. Aside from that, few details about the new camera mod were revealed.
Prior to the announcement of the Lucid mod, we had only seen one other mode from RED, but that too was only a prototype and we haven’t seen it in action as of yet. It’s the same story with the Lucid mod – we’ve only seen images of it so far.
We got to see the Hydrogen One for ourselves this past weekend and it left more questions than answers. It’s still shrouded in mystery and about the only thing we know is that RED says it is coming out in August and it will be available through AT&T and Verizon. However, with RED opening up more about its upcoming flagship, hopefully more answers are on the way very soon.
