Acer announced a handful of its laptops now have direct access to Amazon’s digital assistant. The group is first to offer Alexa alongside Windows 10 and Cortana.
Instead of hoping Microsoft makes Cortana more capable, companies are turning to Amazon for help. Alexa, which launched nearly four years ago, is one of the most robust digital assistants around. Fortunately, though, the two play nice on Windows 10 for users.
The laptops confirmed to have Alexa activated include the Aspire 5, Nitro 5 Spin, Spin 3, Spin 5, and Switch 7 Black Edition. Acer will bring the digital assistant to more laptops and desktops in the future, but these are the only devices we know of so far. In the future, Amazon’s digital assistant should be on every product in Acer’s PC portfolio.
Alexa won’t go live on all devices at once. The Spin 3 and Spin 5 are first, getting the software update later this week. Acer says it’ll then offer Alexa out of the box on the Nitro Spin 5 and other devices in the coming weeks.
In case you needed another reminder that Cortana is dead, this is it. Expect to see many more of Microsoft’s longtime partners make Alexa-on-Windows a selling point throughout the rest of the year.
