Like most blockbuster comic book movies, Deadpool 2 features a post-credits scene. In fact, there are several, of which audiences can see now that the sequel is in theaters. Unfortunately, there’s one end-credits scene audiences won’t get to see: Chris Evans as the Human torch.
According to Deadpool 2 writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, one of the ideas for a post-credits stinger was to see more characters apply to join X-Force. We’d see a motley crew of superhero rejects make their case for joining the team, including Human Torch, who Evans played in two Fantastic Four movies.
“There were different codas kicked around,” Wernick said. “There were more X-Force interviews that were talked about. One was Chris Evans as Human Torch.”
Seeing Evans return to a character he played several years ago would be a huge surprise, and one we wouldn’t put past Ryan Reynolds and the Deadpool writers to pull off. Sadly, Evans doesn’t have a cameo in Deadpool 2 despite the brilliant idea.
When asked if Evans turned down the opportunity, Rhett Reese said they decided to go in a different direction. “Someone had the idea we actually did and we thought that was better.”
Evans currently portrays Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so including him would have been tricky anyway. However, as we’ve seen from the Deadpool 2 trailers, the movie isn’t shy about referencing the fact that Josh Brolin, who portrays Cable, plays Thanos.
Deadpool 2 is in theaters now.
