A Star Wars Lando Calrissian spin-off is a real possibility

One of the most intriguing aspects of Solo: A Star Wars Story is Donald Glover’s performance as Lando Calrissian—Han Solo’s buddy responsible for landing him the Millennium Falcon. As is the case with any interesting Star Wars character, the idea of developing a standalone movie for him has come up a lot, and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy just opened the door for this to become a reality.

Speaking with Premiere Magazine, Kennedy talked about the character and if he will be the focus of a future Star Wars anthology movie. Her comments were surprisingly candid and exciting.

“We think that the next spinoff will be dedicated to Lando Calrissian,” said Kennedy. “Of course, there are still many stories to tell about Han and Chewbacca but Lando will be next.”

Right off the bat, that sounds like a Lando movie getting made, and the word “next” in particular hinted that it would be very close. However, Kennedy later backtracked on the comment in a statement to Polygon, saying the quote was mistranslated. But even upon the statement, she still didn’t fully close the door on a Lando spin-off movie, stating the movie is “something she’d like to do one day in the future.”

It’s just semantics at this point, but the door is open for a Lando movie to get made and that is all we care about. That’s better than the always rumored Obi Wan Kenobi movie that is always talked about by fans, but never by key Star Wars personnel. A Lando Calrissian movie actually has a shot at getting made; hopefully it isn’t too far off.
