Deadpool 2’s Rotten Tomatoes score is out—Is it as good as the original?

The biggest question surrounding Deadpool 2 has been its ability to retain the same raucous and irreverent humor that made the original so good. The question has been answered decisively with its Rotten Tomatoes score being revealed.

Deadpool 2 has earned an 84-percent Rotten Tomatoes score, making it certified fresh among most reviews. So far, that accounts for 93 reviews, with 75 of those saying the movie is fresh. Initial impressions seem to be very good, but the score may change as more reviews come in, though it shouldn’t be by any more than a couple points.

That’s actually slightly better than the original’s 83-percent rating and the same as Avenger: Infinity War’s rating. Here’s how it stacks up against some other superhero movies:

  • Avengers: Infinity War: 84%
  • Black Panther: 96%
  • Justice League: 40%
  • Spider-Man: Homecoming: 92%
  • Wonder Woman: 92%
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: 83%

What does this all mean? Well, a sure way to kill the momentum of a movie is to get terrible reviews. Just ask Justice League. With Deadpool 2 earning impressive reviews, this likely seals its fate as being a big hit at the box office.

It’s still unclear if it’ll out-earn the original at the box office, but at the very least it will come close. Early estimates already peg it to dethrone Infinity War at the box office this upcoming weekend.

Deadpool 2 arrives in theaters this Friday.
