Google One replaces Google Drive with improved storage plans and perks

by Brandon Russell | May 14, 2018

Google on Monday announced a new cloud storage initiative that introduces a host of pricing changes to the company’s current Drive setup. The project is called Google One, and will offer plans ranging from 100GB per month to 30TB per month. Every Google user will still get 15GB for free.

According to Google, all paid consumer Google Drive storage plans will be upgraded to Google One in the next few months. If you’re a G Suite business customer, nothing will change, Google said.

Google One’s plans provide plenty of cloud storage for a nominal fee. If you take a lot of photos and video, then you’ll want to consider Google’s new plans, which can be shared with family members.

Here’s how things break down:

  • 15GB = free
  • 100GB = $1.99 per month
  • 2TB = $9.99 per month
  • 10TB = $99.99 per month
  • 20TB = $199.99 per month
  • 30TB = $299.99 per month

Google One subscribers will get “one-tap access” to experts for help, credits for Google Play, and deals on select hotels found in Google Search. Additional benefits will be added over the coming months, Google said.

Current Google Drive subscribers will be upgraded to Google One in the coming months, with priority in the U.S., followed by wider expansion globally. If you currently pay for a 1TB Drive plan, you’ll get double the storage at no extra cost when Google One goes live.

“Thanks to mobile phones, and new file formats like 4K video and high-res photography, people are storing more than ever before,” Google’s VP of Google One, Pavni Diwanji, said.
