Motorola is still without any new high-end hardware in 2018. While many of the top brands have already announced their latest flagships or scheduled launches for the end of spring, the company hasn’t said a word about its plans for this year. That should be changing in the coming months, though, with the Moto Z3 family appearing in a few leaks.
The Moto Z3 Play, which should be somewhere between high-end and mid-range, was allegedly caught on camera last week. And it did seem authentic because the live shots matched the leaked press render from earlier in the year. When multiple leaks align, chances are they’re real.
Now it’s all coming together as one reliable name has shared a press render of the Moto Z3 Play from every angle.
Here’s the press render that leaked online:
Here’s your first clear look at the Moto Z3 Play. Evan Blass, the mobile industry insider at VentureBeat, posted the press render on Twitter for the world to see.
Along with seeing the phone’s design, we’re seeing the Moto Z3 Play in a unique color. Blass says this is the Moto Z3 Play in Deep Indigo. Motorola’s used the color before, but not on the Moto Z series.
Not all that much stands out, as the Moto Z3 Play looks like last year’s Moto Z2 Play with some cosmetic tweaks. The display has 18:9 aspect ratio, but the overall build is largely unchanged from last year. Motorola, however, appears to be switching from metal to a glass back. There’s also a noticeable fingerprint scanner on the right side.
The Moto Z3 Play is showing software that’s close to stock Android, a dual-camera setup on the back, magnetic connectors for Moto Mods, and a USB-C port without a headphone jack nearby.
There’s no strong indication for when Motorola will announce the Moto Z3 and its related variants. In recent years, the company’s waited until the summer to make flagships official. The Moto Z debuted in June 2016, and the Moto Z2 Force was held until July the following year. Motorola is probably going to do the same in 2018.
Both the Moto Z3 and the Moto Z3 Play will likely launch no earlier than June and no later than August.
