Now you shouldn’t doubt the iPhone SE 2 will be released in 2018. The product appears to be real, and it could launch as soon as next month.

Mobile industry insider Evan Blass revealed an excerpt from some type of document that lists the “iPhone SE (2018)” as an internal project for the Cupertino-based company. Rumors have been swirling that Apple is working on a successor to the compact iPhone introduced two years ago, but this is the first time we’re getting information that seems trustworthy.

Apple could utilize the iPhone Se 2 as a low-cost alternative to its expensive models. Behind the iPhone X, the most affordable iPhone released recently is the iPhone 8 and that starts at $699. The company’s been giving more attention to affordable products to attract new customers.

Specifications should include a 4-inch display, Apple’s A10 Fusion processor, Touch ID, wireless charging, a glass-based construction, and no headphone jack.

The new iPhone SE was expected to launch at WWDC 2018, which begins on June 4. Then, however, another media outlet stepped forward to say it’ll arrive sooner than that. Apple is reportedly on the verge of announcing the iPhone SE 2 in May. Assuming that’s actually on track, the iPhone SE 2 will be made official within the next three weeks.

Based on the latest leak, Apple could call it the iPhone SE with retailers attaching the year to indicate its newness.
