Nokia X6 launches on April 27, and it may feature a notch

HMD Global announced a bunch of phones at MWC 2018 a few months ago, but the company is eager to introduce even more Nokia-branded hardware.

The Nokia X6, which should mark the beginning of a new series, is expected to be introduced this week. Although its design may seem premium, the internal specifications are pretty average. As we’ve seen before, HMD Global is interested in serving the mid-range and low-end segments. Sales and margins on flagships are hard to sustain, so the company feels it should focus on budget-friendly mobile devices.

From the outside, the new phone should resemble the Nokia 7 Plus that debuted earlier this year. So the Nokia X6 could be a region-specific release for Asia. The difference, and it’s a major one, is that the Nokia X6 appears to have a notch at the top of its display.

A leaked press render surfaced on Baidu, though there’s no way for us to tell how authentic it is. It could indeed show the Nokia X6, or it could be someone lazily modifying the Nokia 7 Plus. Fortunately, we’ll find out the truth tomorrow.

The press render shows the Nokia X6 with a simple notch, so don’t assume there will be any intricate technology for facial recognition at work. To the sides of the earpiece are a front-facing camera and the ambient light sensor.

It’s expected that the Nokia X6 will be released only in China. If you’re located somewhere else where HMD Global sells phones, you’ll have to choose another model.

Based on a promotional poster put out on Weibo, the Nokia X6 should be official on April 27.
