The tension between Fast and Furious stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Vin Diesel is no secret, but neither has discussed the feud publicly, instead opting to display a united front. That is, until Johnson finally spoke out about their differences, a rift that may ultimately lead to his departure from the franchise.
During an interview with Rolling Stone, Johnson opened up about the differences Diesel and he had, and judging from his comments, it sounds a lot like the two just didn’t get along.
“Vin and I had a few discussions, including an important face-to-face in my trailer,” Johnson said. “And what I came to realize is that we have a fundamental difference in philosophies on how we approach moviemaking and collaborating. It took me some time, but I’m grateful for that clarity. Whether we work together again or not.”
There’s a lot to unpack there. First, it sounds like this “face-to-face” may have been an intense situation, given the way it is phrased. This led to a clear divide between the two that has not gone away.
Ending the statement with the possibility of not working with Diesel again could mean Johnson is prepared to depart the Fast and Furious franchise. But don’t worry, he is still very much excited for the spin-off Hobbs and Shaw with Jason Statham.
Johnson went on to say he wishes Diesel the best. It’s a very diplomatic answer, but it came after making it clear the two may not work together professionally anymore. That’s a shame given the two make an awesome tandem in the franchise, but we’ll take solace in the fact that Johnson’s spin-off will be a rocking good time.
