Since the Nintendo Switch’s launch last year, the portable console’s popularity has been driven in large part by the availability of really awesome indie titles. Now, we know exactly what players are buying, thanks to recent comments by Nintendo at the Game Developers Conference.
The company revealed the ten best-selling Switch indie titles, a list that features many games you’d expect—and maybe a few you might not.
“Since the launch of Nintendo Switch, we’ve continued to be blown away with the amount of high-quality games coming from our passionate Nindie developers, and the positive fan reception for those experiences,” said Damon Baker, Nintendo of America’s Senior Manager for Publisher & Developer Relations.
Here’s the list in no particular order:
- SteamWorld Dig 2
- Stardew Valley
- Golf Story
- Fast RMX
- Enter the Gungeon
- NBA Playgrounds
- Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove
The Switch features an incredibly strong first and third-party lineup, but it’s the library of indie titles that makes the console so appealing. Baker said these games have been so successful because they give players a sense of nostalgia.
If that’s true, Baker’s comments make it even more perplexing as to why Nintendo has yet to launch a Virtual Console. In addition to announcing the ten best-selling indie titles, Nintendo this week also revealed which new indie games are headed to Switch over the next few months.
