Apple has confirmed a fix is on the way for a bug that allows Siri to read hidden notifications.
The bug was first discovered by MacMagazine earlier this week. Users could ask Siri to “read my notifications,” and the assistant would do so. That’s fine and all, but it even did so with hidden notifications. Hidden notifications were first introduced with the iPhone X. With the feature enabled, if users aren’t paying attention to their phones, no lurking eyes can see what your most recent message says.
That is unless they ask Siri to read it aloud.
According to reports, the privacy issue is affecting third-party apps such as Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and Gmail. It is not affecting Apple’s own iMessage.
Apple is aware of the issue and has since responded in a statement to MacRumors, saying a fix is on the way. “[W]e are aware of the issue and it will be addressed in an upcoming software update,” stated Apple.
The update should either arrive with the upcoming release of iOS 11.3 or possibly sooner.
