As Disney gears up to release Avengers: Infinity War, the movie equivalent of graduating college, the company has announced plans for expanded Marvel-themed attractions at three parks across the globe.
First up, Disney said it will introduce new attraction featuring Guardians of the Galaxy, Iron Man, and Spider-Man at Disney’s California Adventure in Anaheim, Calif. The new attraction is being described as a “completely immersive Super Hero universe,” built to complement Guardians of the Galaxy—Mission: Breakout!
To make way for the new attraction, Disney will close A Bug’s Land, which is themed after 1998’s A Bug’s Life. In addition to a new attraction, Disney is working with Marvel Studios and Marvel Themed Entertainment to introduce a new live show.
The additions to California Adventure will come after Disney opens Star Wars Land, which is an upcoming Star Wars-themed attraction being developed at Disneyland. The attraction is anticipated to open in 2019.
Disney also announced plans to build a Marvel-themed attraction in Paris where riders team up with Iron Man. In Hong Kong, Disney said it will introduced a Marvel-themed attraction that will feature Ant-Man and the Wasp. The attraction comes in addition to an Iron Man Experience, which opened last year.
Frankly, Disney is missing an opportunity here by not building a version of Wakanda at one of these parks. But if we had to choose, it sounds like Disney’s California Adventure is getting the best attractions, primarily because Spider-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy will feature heavily.
