When Deadpool 2 arrives in theaters this May, it’ll be under a lot of pressure. That’s because the first entry was wildly successful, praised by critics and fans alike in what was the first smash hit R-rated comic book movie. Putting it mildly, that’s a lot to live up to, but the early buzz around the sequel says it is more than up for the task.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, early test screenings for Deadpool 2 have yielded raucous responses from audiences. Anytime a screening is held, audiences are asked to give the movie a score on a scale from one to 100. Two early screenings for the Merch with Mouth’s sequel earned a 91 and a 97. Two later screenings played two different cuts: one got a 98 and the other got a 94.
For comparison, Deadpool earned a score of 91 during its test screenings.
The studio is planning on using the cut that got the 98 score as the version that hits theaters, and that bodes very well for the success of Deadpool 2. The report stated during this particular screening, the atmosphere in the theater was electric. Audiences really got into the movie and absolutely loved it.
Recently, Deadpool 2 underwent six days of reshoots in Vancouver to add more scenes that fall in line with the screening audiences liked.
Deadpool 2 arrives in theaters May 18.
