Black Panther sequel “absolutely” happening

After garnering rave reviews and amassing nearly $1 billion at the box office, Marvel Studios has confirmed a Black Panther sequel is in the cards.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed ideas for Black Panther 2 are already percolating.

“Nothing specific to reveal, other than to say we absolutely will do that,” Feige said. “One of the favorite pastimes at Marvel Studios is sitting around on a Part One and talking and dreaming about what we would do in a Part Two. There have been plenty of those conversations as we were putting together the first Black Panther. We have ideas and a pretty solid direction on where we want to head with the second one.”

Anyone who has seen Black Panther could have guessed there would be a sequel. The character was a standout in Captain America: Civil War and has gained a massive following after his solo debut.

But Chadwick Boseman’s portrayal of Black Panther isn’t the only reason why the movie was such a success. Thanks to the vision of director Ryan Coogler, a gorgeous recreation of Wakanda, and a stellar cast of supporting characters, Black Panther is unlike any superhero movie we’ve seen.

It’s unclear which characters will return for the sequel, or if Coogler will return to direct, but you can bet Marvel Studios will try to get as many of the same pieces. In the meantime, audiences can return to Wakanda when Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters in April.
