Back in November, the iPhone X’s gorgeous OLED display was crowned the market’s best by DisplayMate. After years of getting thoroughly trounced by Samsung, Apple had finally responded with an impressive display, but Samsung has returned the favor with the Galaxy S9, taking back the crown.
In its round of lab tests for the Galaxy S9’s OLED display, DisplayMate concluded that it is the best smartphone display, outperforming every other smartphone, including the iPhone X.
Among the categories the Galaxy S9 either topped or set a new marks were highest contrast ratio, highest absolute color accuracy (0.7 JNCD), highest peak display brightness (1,130 nits) and largest native color gamut. DisplayMate went as far as to call the display “virtually indistinguishable from perfect” and is “almost certainly considerably better than your existing Smartphone, living room 4K Ultra or HDTV, Tablet, Laptop, and computer monitor.”
DisplayMate also stated the S9’s display offers the best viewing angles thanks to record-setting small shifts in brightness and color.
That’s some high praise. DisplayMate went on to congratulate Samsung for its implementation and perfection of OLED panels. Overall, the Galaxy S9’s display earned a highest score DisplayMate has ever awarded a smartphone display: A+.
All of this should come as no surprise. Samsung has long dominated the display game, and its latest smartphone is just continuing the trend. If you opt to purchase a Galaxy S9, you are assured you will get a stunning display.
