Essential just made it way easier to try Oreo

The Essential Phone still doesn’t have Android Oreo, but a software update for the public release should begin rolling out very soon. Essential and its community are working hard to identify any bugs in the beta before opening up the build to everyone. When the Essential Phone was released, it was hampered by bugs and certainly the company doesn’t want to experience anything like that again.

If you absolutely need to have Oreo on your Essential Phone right now, you can enroll in the beta program. Essential just made the process of downloading and installing the preview a lot simpler.

You don’t have to go through flashing or sideloading files anymore. Essential will let you have your first taste of Oreo through an over-the-air update. It’s the same way you’d get any software update on an Android device.

All you need to do is head over to Essential’s site, provide your contact information and your device’s serial number, and wait to receive the software update.

Once the software update is live on your Essential Phone, you’ll notice Android 8.1 Oreo is present. Essential opted to skip Android 8.0 since it identified some bugs on its own end and wanted to provide customers with the absolute latest version of Android.

If the beta is still too finnicky for you, you do have the option to revert back and wait for a stable build.
