Sony might finally be changing its design language after years of refusing to listen to anyone.
One brand will have the biggest presence at MWC 2018, but there are going to plenty of other announcements made by Samsung’s competitors in the mobile industry. Sony posted a teaser for at least one new phone that will make its debut at the trade show in Barcelona. The teaser doesn’t tell us all that much about what’s coming, but it could indicate the long-dated design is on its way out.
The company posted the teaser on all of its social media accounts to say that, on February 26, it’ll unveil the next Xperia phone. Not a single shot of the phone is provided; however, we see curves. And that could mark the beginning of a new design language.
If you read our review of the Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact last year, you’ll remember how hard we came down on Sony for the dated look and feel of its phones. Neither of them felt particularly premium despite having big price tags attached. With Sony’s next flagship, the company could be embracing modern qualities like a display with 18:9 aspect ratio and thin bezels.
Naming for whatever’s coming is unknown as it seems too early for the Xperia XZ2. It’s possible that Sony’s announcement at MWC is for the Xperia XZ1 Premium. Regardless, you should expect a high-end phone to launch pretty soon.
