As promised, Apple on Monday released a new software update that addresses bug that reared its head last week. The update (iOS 11.2.6) should be rolling out to everyone over as we speak.
The update’s main purpose is to address a bug that would render some popular messaging services, including Apple’s iMessage, useless. Apple promised to roll out the update after it was discovered a Telugu character would cause these messaging services to freeze.
Apple’s release notes are below:
iOS 11.2.6 includes bug fixes for your iPhone or iPad/ This update:
Fixes an issue where using certain character sequence could cause apps to crash
Fixes an issue where some third-party apps could fail to connect to external accessories.
The Telugu character has been shared relentlessly by users after the big was discovered, wreaking havoc on iPhones everywhere. Thanks to the update, services like iMessage will no longer be incapacitated.
This update arrives before a much larger update from Apple (iOS 11.3), which is expected to introduce new Animoji and iCloud for Messages, among other features.
