Mi Mix 2S specs trickle out, seemingly confirm Xiaomi’s beast

Xiaomi already wants to replace the Mi Mix 2 with upgraded specifications. The phone only launched in September of last year, but the Chinese company wants to swap out some internal components and tweak the design to remain competitive in 2018.

Initially there was some speculation that an iPhone X-like notch would be inserted at the top of the display, though it seems now the front-facing camera and ambient light sensor will get tucked into the top right corner. It’s not the design that will be too different from the original anyway. The Mi Mix 2S is expected to swap processors, switch to a dual-camera setup on the back, and ship with MIUI based on the latest version of Android.

These expectations are seemingly confirmed by XDA-Developers as leaked firmware shares some details regarding Xiaomi’s next creation.

The leaked firmware suggests the Mi Mix 2S, known internally as Polaris, will feature a 5.99-inch Full HD+ (2160×1080) display with 18:9 aspect ratio, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor, a 3400mAh battery, and Android 8.0 Oreo. Even if you think those specs are too similar to the Mi Mix 2 on the market today, the Mi Mix 2S still looks to be a beastly phone.

Other items spotted include dual-SIM support, an IR blaster, and an LED notification light. Those, however, are pretty standard for Xiaomi’s hardware.

Xiaomi might include artificial intelligence technology with the camera, too. The software obtained by XDA-Developers mentions scene recognition. Categories range from flowers to food to animals to weather.

No launch event for the Mi Mix 2S is on the calendar yet, so if anything, this leak at least tells us Xiaomi’s upgrade to last year’s Mi Mix 2 is real and on the way.
