Stranger Things’ second season is just a few months old and still pretty fresh in our minds, but for the Duffer brothers and executive producer Shawn Levy, it’s a distant memory. They’re hard at work on the third season and, while it’s far from done, they already have a good idea of how things are going.
“It’ll be an eight- or nine-episode season,” said Levy when talking to Glamour. “The number of episodes will be dictated by the amount of story that excites us. We now know what is going to happen in season 3 to every character.”
So it’s going to be Will getting into trouble while the boys save him, right?
“We’re going to give Will a break. We’re not going to put Will through hell for a third season in a row,” Levy said. “He’ll be dealing with stuff, but he won’t be at rock bottom the way we forced the amazing Noah Schnapp to play.”
The team is looking to mix things up for the third season, and Levy says the kids will be “dealing with forces of evil that are new,” and that any predictions we’re lining up now would probably end up being wrong. That sounds like a challenge directly to the Stranger Things subreddit, Mr. Levy. Be careful what you wish for.
Stranger Things‘ third season is a ways off, returning late this year at the very soonest.
“If we could make it return faster, then we would,” Levy said. “But we’re going to make it well. We’re going to do it right.”
