Netflix’s excellent animated Castlevania series pumped some much-needed blood into the classic vampire-hunting franchise. Konami’s fanbase had written off the series as “erotic violence” pachinko filler, but the genuine talent behind this production promises a television show that will ultimately serve as a retelling of the NES classic Casltevania III: Dracula’s Curse, one of the best games in the series.
The only major problem with the show was that it ended after four episodes… and just as series stud Alucard strutted his way into the storyline, too.
Never you mind that, now. Netflix has confirmed that Castlevania Season Two will begin airing exclusively through its service this coming summer, and the episode count has been doubled to eight! Now that the first four episodes have created an addicting setup and united our heroes… well… most of them at any rate, we can get right into the nitty, gritty vampire slaying action!
Castlevania recounts the rise of Trevor Belmont and his rise to power as a vampire hunter in the town of Wallachia. He teams up with the sorceress Sypha Belnades and Dracula’s son Alucard to stop the renegade vampire from overrunning Western Europe. However, the show twists the legend and portrays Dracula as a somewhat sympathetic villain with a genuine beef against the humans he torments.
Seriously, though, Netflix. If the lovable pirate Grant DaNasty doesn’t make an appearance, I’m not going to be happy.
