2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt sees the return of a classic

Rumblings suggested the grand return of the Mustang Bullitt in the weeks leading up to the Detroit Auto Show. Once the show started, Ford did not disappoint with the unveiling of the 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt 50th anniversary edition.

The 2019 Mustang Bullitt is a recreation of the Mustang featured in the Steve McQueen classic movie, Bullitt. Thus, the car looks like a modernized version of that car featured in the movie. It’s essentially a beefed up Mustang GT with the Performance and Premium packages baked in.

Powering the Bullitt is a 5.0-liter V8 complete with the Shelby GT360 manifold intake, Open Air induction and 87mm throttle bodies. The end result is at least 475 horsepower, 420-pound feet of torque and a top speed of 163 miles per hour. That’s slightly more power than the current GT. The Bullitt will only be available in a six-speed manual transmission—sorry automatic drivers.

The power the Bullitt offers is nice and all, but the reason you’d buy the Mustang Bullitt is its looks. It brings back the classic Dark Highland Green paint job, 19-inch five spoke aluminum wheels painted black with an exposed aluminum rim outlining the tire, rear faux gas cap, no badges and even a white cue-ball shifter.

Beyond the shifter and a Bullitt badge on the steering wheel, the interior isn’t changed up much. You will get a standard digital instrument cluster, which is a big upgrade over the standard analog version available with the EcoBoost and GT.

Ford is offering other add-ons to spruce up the Billitt even more. There is an available Shadow Black paint option, Recaro leather seats, MagneRide suspension and the Bullitt Electronics Package that adds navigation, memory seats and mirrors, improved sound system and a Blind Spot Information system.

During the unveiling, Ford brought out the original Mustang Bullitt with the help of Steve McQueen’s granddaughter Molly McQueen. Talk about going all out.

Ford didn’t get into pricing specifics for the 2019 Mustang Bullitt, but expect to find the Bullitt in Ford dealers by this summer.
