Warner Bros.’ long-anticipated DC movie Shazam! has finally found a release date: April 5, 2019.
Shazam! was announced as the next DC movie after Aquaman, but aside from filling out every major role, including casting Zachary Levi as the titular Shazam, a concrete release date was never set. That was until Warner Bros. announced the official release date, ensuring two DC movies will be released in 2019.
Levi will play Captain Marvel while actor Asher Angel will play his alter ego, Billy Batson, who transforms into the hero by uttering the word Shazam. David F. Sandberg will direct and Henry Gaydan and Darren Lemke will take care of penning the script.
After the disappointment of Justice League, Warner Bros. was slow to move forward with any future DC project. The only other movie being made was Aquaman, and that’s only because production started well before the release of Justice League.
A few weeks ago I examined the DC movie roadmap and how Warner Bros. has been slow in actually getting those movies made.
With Shazam! being official now, Warner Bros.’ attention can shift to making Wonder Woman 2 happen. It’s slated to arrive in theaters November 1, 2019. Beyond those two movies and the upcoming Aquaman, the rest of the DC movie line-up is still in flux.
