New laptops are among the most popular items showcased at CES in Las Vegas every year, and Samsung is bringing at least three of them to the trade show in 2018. The company just announced the Notebook 7 Spin (2018) that will join the upgraded Notebook 9 and Notebook 9 Pen in its year-opening lineup. Like its two siblings, the Notebook 7 Spin (2018) ships with an all-metal body and an Intel 8th generation Core series processor.

The Notebook 7 Spin (2018) isn’t necessarily a high-end laptop. In fact, it’s a hybrid with modest specifications. You’re getting both a laptop and a tablet in a single device as the hinge allows the display to be folded back against the keyboard. It’s not too heavy, either. Despite being made of metal, the Notebook 7 Spin (2018) weighs 3.3lbs.

With its versatility, Samsung is targeting those who normally buy everyday laptops. The Notebook 7 Spin (2018) is made mostly for students, but professionals could have their needs met as well.

A 13.3-inch Full HD (1920×1080) display faces you at all times, and it’s probably going to be of excellent quality since Samsung makes top-notch screens in various industries. The Notebook 7 Spin (2018) uses Intel’s 8th generation Core i5 processor, which features four cores, to run the show. And the processor is paired with 8GB of RAM. For storage, you have 256GB to work with.

There’s no shortage of ports as the company included one USB-C port, one USB 3.0 port, one USB 2.0 port, one HDMI port, and one headphone jack. Also on the exterior is a backlit keyboard and a Windows Hello-enabled fingerprint scanner.

The Notebook 7 Spin (2018) does come with some specialized software. If you purchase Samsung’s Active Pen, you’ll be able to sketch or take notes as if you’re using a regular pen and paper. Then there’s Voice Note, an app utilizing the far-field microphone to record meetings and lectures before storing them on Samsung Cloud. Studio Plus is bundled, too. The app allows you to assemble movies using pictures and videos. Samsung hopes those two things appeal to students and professionals.

And the laptop should last throughout the day. Samsung didn’t give an estimate for battery life, but we know the battery is 43Wh.

Samsung plans to release the Notebook 7 Spin (2018) in select countries, including the U.S., by the end of the first quarter. Specific pricing and availability weren’t provided, so we’ll be waiting for that.
