If you’re someone who owns the Axon 7, it’ll be quite a bit longer before the latest version of Android finally hits your phone. ZTE announced that it won’t be until April 2018 when the phone receives a software update for Android 8.0 Oreo. While the wait is disappointing, the company will include a redesigned software overlay.
Here’s what ZTE said, translated from German:
“Our plan is that we expect to distribute the new software update to your devices in April 2018. With the update, our new Stock + UI for the Axon 7 will also be available for the first time.”
The Axon 7, in case you forgot, was released all the way back in mid-2016. It acted as ZTE’s first flagship after years of releasing mid-range and low-end devices. The phone features a 5.5-inch Quad HD (2560×1440) AMOLED display, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, 20MP and 8MP cameras, and a 3250mAh battery. No one would question it was a step up from what ZTE normally offered.
It may be a long wait, but we have to respect ZTE for still caring about the phone. Usually, companies abandon a flagship once it reaches the one-year mark. ZTE, however, got the Axon 7 upgraded to Android 7.0 Nougat in 2017 and plans on rolling out Oreo in 2018.
ZTE’s estimate could be on the safe side, too. You shouldn’t rule out the company getting Oreo on the Axon 7 before then. The company might surprise everyone and have the software update ready to go by February or March. Just be patient, friends.
