Your Instagram feed is about to get even more crowded

Instagram has taken the next step in becoming the new Facebook. The photo and video sharing app has pushed through a feature that recommends posts within your feed, further worsening the already convoluted Instagram feed.

Earlier this year, Instagram was testing “Recommended for you,” which suggests posts based on the people you follow, which you can easily distinguish this new section by the bold labeling at the top. The feed will contain three to five recommended posts.

In an explanation of the feature to TechCrunch, Instagram said the recommended tab will only appear when you’ve viewed all of the posts in your feed. That doesn’t make much sense because the feed is continuous and has no end. So basically, Instagram is going to place the feature somewhere in your feed, preferably very deep, and you are going to have to deal with it.

Instagram has been pushing out features meant to enhance the consumption of information. One of those moves was to bypass the standard chronological feed in favor one procured by an algorithm. This hasn’t been the best user experience, and the new recommended feature will likely be rejected similarly by users.

For the time being, users can hide the feature by tapping the three dot menu and elect to hide it, but this option will only be temporary. Enjoy it while it lasts.

The recommend feature is now being pushed out to all users on iOS and Android.
