McLaren Senna is a million dollar supercar that’s already sold out

When you utter the word McLaren, there is only one word that comes to mind: supercar. That illustrious aura has been earned in decades of designing some of the world’s fastest cars, with the latest one being the McLaren Senna. And boy is this a supercar in every sense of the word.

There’s no mistaking the Senna for anything other than a supercar. In every line, curve, and styling, it looks ostentatiously fast. It also makes any normal person want to hop in and put it through its limits while breaking the speed limit. Named after legendary Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna, McLaren had to follow through with the worthy car and it definitely did so.

The Senna will be the most powerful McLaren with an internal combustion engine. That is possible through a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 789 horsepower and 580-pound-feet of torque. Those numbers aren’t as impressive other cars, other powerful cars handily eclipse them, but the 2,461-pound body provides the last element to make sure this car will most certainly fly.

All of this comes together through an aerodynamic design. Attention was paid to every detail of the car, from the front splitter to the rear double diffuser to optimize downforce and aerodynamic balance.

“The McLaren Senna is a car like no other: the personification of McLaren’s motorsport DNA, legalized for road use but designed and developed from the outset to excel on a circuit,” parlayed McLaren Automotive chief executive officer Mike Flewitt. “Every element of this new Ultimate Series McLaren has an uncompromised performance focus, honed to ensure the purest possible connection between driver and machine and deliver the ultimate track driving experience in the way that only a McLaren can.”

The Senna was designed specifically for track use, but it is street legal. After all, a million dollar supercar is meant to be driven, not used to go buy groceries, although it can do that too.

Some of the other exterior design details that stand out are the glass panels on the side of the scissor doors, center-triple exhaust at the back and the exuberant rear spoiler wing.

Moving inside, McLaren wanted to take a scaled-back approach with a clutter-less cockpit. Of course, it still looks like a supercar, with carbon fiber detailing everywhere. A single center console display acts as the main display. There is no fancy digital cluster here, only a simplified cluster with pertinent information like gear, speedometer, and tachometer. The dual-clutch gearbox can either be used in automatic mode or used with the flashy (carbon fiber) paddle shifters.

If you’re salivating at the mouth to get a Senna for yourself, you’ll just have to shell out over a million dollars (£750,000) for it. And that’s not the bad news; the Senna is already sold out. McLaren is only producing 500 cars to be sold in the third quarter of 2018, and every single one has been sold. Each car will be manufactured in McLaren’s plant in Surrey, England.

McLaren will announce more details about the Senna at the Geneva Motor Show in March. For the time being, the rest of us can dream of the day when we can impulsively buy a car like the McLaren Senna.
