That Quentin Tarantino Star Trek flick just got a writer

Quentin Tarantino making a Star Trek movie? It’s starting to seem more and more likely. Word slipped out a few weeks ago that Tarantino and JJ Abrams were going back and forth about the indie legend making a Trek film, and Paramount even gave the go-ahead to make the movie R-rated according to Birth Movies Death. Now, the movie has its writer, and it’s a good one.

According to Deadline, Mark L. Smith will pen the script for the movie. Smith helped write the screenplay for The Revnant, which won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. Tarantino is reportedly still planning to direct the film, and will produce it with Abrams.

Now is the time to start theorizing just what a Tarantino-produced Star Trek film could be like. It’s a ways out, though, as Tarantino is already working on a movie set in the 60s, adjacent to the Manson murders, but it seems like a Star Trek adventure is actually happening, as weird as it is.
