Amazon Prime Video broke the record for most downloaded Apple TV app

To say that people were waiting for the release of the Amazon Prime Video app to arrive for the Apple TV would be a major understatement. Now that it has arrived, it has been insanely popular with Apple TV users, becoming the most downloaded Apple TV app during its first week of release.

The news was first reported by BestAppleTV and has since been confirmed by other outlets. Raw numbers of the downloads weren’t revealed by Apple, and they likely never will be. Even with Apple’s secrecy, we still have its app Top Chart as a reference and the Amazon Prime Video app is still ranked as the most popular free and entertainment app.

Amazon’s Prime Video service has become quite popular as it comes as a free perk to any Prime subscriber. It offers a ton of fantastic original content with critically acclaimed movies and TV shows.

Originally announced at WWDC back in June, the Amazon Prime Video app didn’t debut on the Apple TV until December 6. This was the first sign of Apple and Amazon slightly mending the rift between them that had been going on over the past two years.

It’s good to see two major companies working together in what ultimately helps its customers. Amazon gets another set top box to access its streaming service and Apple fleshes out the perks you get with the Apple TV. It’s a win-win situation.
