Microsoft wants to give you a free copy of this year’s most popular game

Now that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) is available for the Xbox One through the Xbox Game Preview Program, Microsoft is doing its darndest to ensure more people check the game out. After all, it’s an exclusive to Microsoft’s console, so it makes sense for an opportunity like this to arise.

From December 17 until December 31, gamers who purchase an Xbox One X will get a free copy of PUBG. Considering the time of year and the hype surrounding the battle royale title, this is a very smart move on Microsoft’s part.

Since going on sale through Steam Early Access earlier this year, PUBG has garnered more than 20 million copies sold; more than 1 million people are already playing on Xbox One, according to Microsoft.

Keep in mind, PUBG is still in a preview state for the Xbox One, meaning the game isn’t quite finished. We got a chance to play a few rounds earlier this week, and we can confirm the game feels a lot clunkier than its PC counterpart, though no less thrilling.

If you planned on buying an Xbox One X over the holidays, PUBG is a nice freebie. However, at $499, the Xbox One X isn’t exactly the most affordable console on the market.

For PC users, PUBG will launch version 1.0 on December 20, which will include the game’s latest desert map.
