Over the weekend, the official trailer for Ready Player One dropped over the weekend. It included a ton of easter eggs and notable characters from classic movies. The movie isn’t being released until March 30, 2018, but a sequel may already be in the works.
The “Ready Player One” novel was released back in 2011, six long years ago. In the meantime Ernest Cline released another book called “Armada.” When news broke that “Ready Player One” was being turned into a movie, many fans immediately speculated he would begin working on a sequel called “Ready Player Two.” That was never confirmed by Cline himself, until now.
During a Facebook livestream to promote the new trailer for the movie, someone asked Cline if he was working on a sequel, and he confirmed he was.
“It’s true,” opened up Cline. “I can’t talk about it too much, but there’s no better inspiration for a writer [than] to return to a world they’ve already worked on when they’re watching Steven Spielberg bring that world to life.”
There you have it, a “Ready Player One” sequel is happening, it will just be a book. We’re still unsure if it will be called “Ready Player Two,” but that makes too much sense not to happen.
We should note that this doesn’t confirm a sequel will be made for the movie. That will be purely dependent on how it performs financially, but if it does well, you can bet the sequel will get made. If it means more opportunities to see the Iron Giant kicking ass like does in the trailer, I’m all for it.
