Apple Pay Cash bug is latest problem with iOS

When iOS 11.2 was released, it introduced a number of important bug fixes, along with Apple Pay Cash, Apple’s peer-to-peer payment service. Unfortunately, a number of users are reporting a glitch with the new service that Apple likely didn’t intend.

Turns out, you can delete Apple Pay Cash through iMessage, with no way to get it back.

According to iDropNews, disabling and reenabling Apple Pay Cash doesn’t bring the service back, and there’s no way to download it through the App Store. Strangely, the service will still work through Siri, although it can no longer be accessed through iMessage.

Apple actually makes it really easy to delete Apple Pay Cash, which is the alarming part. By going into Messages, tap on the App Store icon and then the three dots toward the bottom of the screen.

From there, you should see all the apps available in Messages. Hit the edit button and you’ll have the option to delete Apple Pay Cash from the Messages app (something we do not recommend doing).

If you have no intention of using Apple Pay Cash, then deleting it is no big deal. But if you do plan on replacing it with Square Cash or Venmo, you won’t be able to use it if you accidentally delete it (or delete it out of curiosity).

iDropNews says it contacted Apple support about the issue and was told the only way to get it back is to do a full restore, which isn’t an ideal solution. Apple hasn’t publicly acknowledged that this is an issue, but hopefully we’ll see a fix in the next release.
