After debuting in October, Google hasn’t said a word about the Home Max, the company’s high-end speaker imbued with Assistant technology. The good news is the speaker should be released in December, hitting the company’s self-imposed deadline.
The caveat is Google hasn’t actually confirmed a date. The information we’re going off is from a listing posted to Best Buy’s website, which says the smart speaker will be available on December 11. The release date was up as of this writing, but it’s very possible it could be pulled.
According to Droid-Life, Google mentions the December 11 date in its own documentation. Buried in the terms for a 12-month YouTube Red promotion (Home Max purchase required) is a mention of the date in question. Apparently, the promotion can be activated between December 11, 2017, and February 15, 2018.
The Google Home Max was “built for sound,” according to Google, offering a rich experience and Assistant smarts. It’s a much higher end option compared to the Home and Home Mini. Considering the speaker is retailing for $399, the device better sound good.

If the device does indeed release on December 11, it will beat Apple to the punch, as the Cupertino company’s HomePod was recently delayed until early 2018.
