The YouTube app has made its triumphant return to the Amazon Echo Show. Google took down the video streaming app roughly two months ago after it deemed it violated terms of service. In the time since, Amazon and Google have made nice and this led to the YouTube app’s return.
According to VoiceBot.ai, this was made possible by a complete redesign of the YouTube app. Before, the app was specifically designed to blend into the Echo Show’s operating system design with a focus on voice control, but the updated version resembles the version you’d find on the web.
Some of the major changes that came along with the redesign are features like subscriptions, autoplay and video recommendations. These features were not available in the early version of the YouTube app.
This is great news for Amazon, as YouTube functionality is one of the main selling points for the Echo Show. After the app was removed, sales for the Echo Show plummeted, with many users taking to the comments section to complain about the lack of YouTube support. It got so bad, Amazon was forced to shut down the comments section for the Echo Show.
All of that is now remedied with the return of the YouTube app on the Echo Show.
