Tesla on Thursday made a surprise announcement after unveiling its new semi truck. The automaker, in a bit of theatrics, drove the Roadster 2 out of one of the semi trucks during its presentation, and it’s a beast. And, before you ask, it seats four.

Here are some early numbers from Tesla for the base model:
- Range: 620 miles
- Speed: 0-60mph in 1.9 seconds (fastest production car ever); quarter mile in 8.9 seconds; 0-100mph in 4.2 seconds
- Battery size: 200KWH
According to Elon Musk, the purpose of unveiling the Roadster 2 was to “give a hardcore smackdown to internal combustion cars.” With the projected range, Tesla says a driver can go from Los Angeles to San Francisco and back again.
These are all early stats, but it already has Tesla’s biggest fans chomping at the bit. Unfortunately, Tesla doesn’t intend on producing the Roadster 2 until 2020, so eager buyers will have to wait a while before getting behind the wheel.
No other details about the Roadster 2 were revealed, like how much it’ll cost. Expect those details to trickle out over the coming months.
