Owlboy launched last year to rave reviews, but even more important, it delivered a sense of completion for its fans. Those who knew about it since day-1 spent nearly a decade of watching it evolve into the gorgeous, pixelated beauty it would eventually become, and seeing that come to fruition was something of a defining moment for the increasingly crowded indie scene.
Owlboy’s next destination will be home consoles, where developer D-Pad Studios will be releasing a physical version of the game for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and, of course, the Nintendo Switch. The game is scheduled for a release on Feb. 13 with the physical version being handled by Soedesco and the port being prepared by Blitworks.
And while any of the platforms can be considered viable for this game, there’s no question the Switch is where it will shine the best. The option of portability is a huge advantage for indie games these days, and it also looks right at home alongside the classic Nintendo platformers that should be available before the end of the year.
No matter which platform you own though, put Owlboy on your list of games to check out next year. It launches for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch on Feb. 13.
