Aquaman star says, ‘Thank Zack Snyder for Aquaman’

While some movies in the DCEU have had a troubled existence, with flicks like the Flash and Suicide Squad 2 struggling to find and keep directors, the upcoming Aquaman film has been trucking right along, and just wrapped production. If you’re excited about it, though, actor Jason Momoa says you have exactly one person to thank: Zack Snyder.

“This opportunity to be where I am is all because of [Snyder],” Momoa said in an interview with Total Film. “So if you like Aquaman, you can pretty much thank Zack Snyder instantly, because none of it would’ve come true if it weren’t for him.”

Snyder already had an image for the character in mind when he approached Momoa.

“I was in shock because I know what Aquaman originally looked like,” he said, referring to the original clean-cut look of the character.

“[Snyder] really liked what I did with Game of Thrones and he really wanted someone who’s a bit of an outlaw… an outsider, or, you know, half an half. He knew I was from Hawaii and raised in Iowa.”

Even the tattoos covering the DCEU take on the character came from Snyder.

“Zack had the idea to put the tattoos everywhere, and everyone wanted him to have just a little bit of blonde in the hair,” Momoa said. “I just wanted him to have the Van Gogh green-colored eyes, where you can kind of get lost in them. You’re scared by it, but you’re drawn in.”

Aquaman seems, from the response to the Justice League trailers, to be one of the most anticipated parts of the movie. Look at those eyes – who could blame you? We’ll get our first time with the soon-to-be king of the seas in Justice League on November 17, 2017, followed by his standalone premiere currently set for December 18, 2018.
