Google drops the price of its expensive Pixel 2 dongle

People were not happy when it was revealed the Pixel 2’s USB-C to 3.5mm dongle was priced at $20. The backlash has apparently been so severe that Google has decided to cut the price in half—matching the same $9 price Apple charges for its Lighting to 3.5mm dongle.

In fairness, Google includes a USB-C to 3.5mm dongle with every Pixel 2 purchase while Apple does not. Still, consumers were displeased by how much Google initially charged for the accessory, and with good reason.

The irony here is Google lambasted Apple last year for ditching the 3.5mm headphone jack. Twelve months later, and the search giant has done the same thing—thus, consumers are left living the dongle life.

If you haven’t yet purchased a pair of Bluetooth headphones, the Pixel 2’s USB-C to 3.5mm dongle will be your new best friend. The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are set for an October 19 release.
