Amazon just cut the price of the Echo Show

Amazon has slashed the price of its Echo Show from $229.99 down to $199.99 for the first time since it announced the product back in June.

The price cut comes on the heels of a report from Variety revealing Echo Show sales have precipitously dropped since Google removed the YouTube app two weeks ago. One of the big allures of buying an Echo Show was to utilize its video playing capabilities for how-to videos. YouTube has the biggest video library in the world, but Echo Show users can’t access the platform due to a squabble between Amazon and Google. That greatly diminishes its appeal.

Google’s decision to remove the YouTube app has even affected the overall ratings for the Echo Show, as customers who are frustrated let their anger be known. There are now a lot of one-star reviews directly pointing at the lack of YouTube support.

Amazon is countering with a $30 discount, the first major discount offered for the Echo Show. As for whether that makes up for the lack of YouTube support, that’s up to customers to decide.

There are no specific details from Amazon about how long the discount will last. If you’ve been thinking about picking up an Echo Show, now may be the best time.
