Blade Runner 2049 is hitting theaters this Friday, 35 years after the original was first released. Ridley Scott’s neo-noir classic stands as one of the marquee movies of the 1980’s, but even so, it is not a perfect movie. We still love it, and so do the Screen Junkies guys, but it was just too perfect not to rib the movie with an Honest Trailer.
One of the most controversial aspects of Blade Runner is the large number of cuts that there are. There’s the Theatrical Cut, Director’s Cut and the Final Cut along with a few others sprinkled in there. So which one of these is the masterpiece?
Don’t ask fans of the movies because you’ll be dragged into an argument you do not want to be a part of.
In the movie, Harrison Ford plays Rick Deckard, a Blade Runner—which is a cop who hunts down androids who has a drinking problem. The job consists of being a bounty hunter half the time, and the other half, he’s an awkward psychiatrist asking a bunch of random questions. You may also ask yourself, how does the title of Blade Runner relate to hunting of replicants? Nobody knows the answer to that.
But there is still one question of the movie that has loomed for 35 years: Is Rick Deckard a replicant?
It’s alluded to, but you never receive confirmation. It also depends on the version of the movie you watch. Basically, watch the movie and decide for yourself.
