Sony this week unveiled the free titles that will be available to PlayStation Plus members in October, and it’s a pretty fantastic list. If you’re into action and horror, you’ll have plenty of content to keep you busy.
The big one is Hideo Kojima’s magnum opus, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Regarded as one of the best games ever made, the title is particularly special because it’s the last game in the Metal Gear franchise that Kojima worked on before parting ways with Konami.
For what it’s worth, the game currently holds a Metacritic score of 93/100 on the PlayStation 4 (it was also released for Xbox One and PC), with several established outlets awarding it a perfect score.
In other words, PS Plus subscribers are in for a real treat when The Phantom Pain becomes a free title next month.
Moving on, PS Plus subscribers will also get Amnesia: Collection, which includes The Dark Descent and A Machine for Pigs. If you’re a horror fan—perhaps Resident Evil 7 re-sparked your interest in the genre—the Amnesia titles are worth a play. They utilize the first-person perspective and unique mechanics to tell horrifying stories.

- Amnesia Collection (PS4)
- Monster Jam Battlegrounds (PS3)
