As if Joe and Anthony Russo weren’t busy enough ushering the epic-sized Avengers 3 and 4 to the big screen, the brothers are piling more comic-book adaptations onto their collective plate.
The brothers are set to produce a pilot for Image Comics’ Deadly Class book for Syfy, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Here’s the official description of the book from Image:
Welcome to the most brutal high school on Earth, where the world’s top crime families send the next generation of assassins to be trained. Murder is an art. Killing is a craft. At King’s Dominion High School for the Deadly Arts, the dagger in your back isn’t always metaphorical, nor is your fellow classmates’ poison.
The series will follow a teenager recruited into this brutal school, where he’ll need to “[maintain] his moral code while surviving a ruthless curriculum, vicious social cliques, and his own adolescent uncertainties.”
We’re about to enter into a glut of teen-centric comic adaptations. The Gifted hits Fox on October 2, Runaways hits Hulu on November 21, and shows like Cloak and Dagger and Titans are set to hit further out.
In addition to the Russo brothers, Deadly Class will be co-produced by Mike Larocca, Adam Targum and Lee Toland Krieger, with Targum as showrunner and Krieger as the pilot’s director.
There’s no release date yet for the show, but it’s just one among a list of shows on Syfy’s growing list of upcoming pilots. Also on the list are a Tremors reboot, a Purge adaptation, an adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s Nightflyers, and the Superman prequel Krypton. As if we didn’t already have enough to watch.
