Anyone who knows the first the first thing about the Joker and Harley Quinn knows that the relationship between these two characters is not healthy. That includes Harley herself, actress Margot Robbie, who played Harley Quinn in 2016’s Suicide Squad and will be reprising the role in an upcoming Harley Quinn & Joker-centric movie.
Talking to Bang Showbiz, Robbie talked about her feelings on the upcoming film.
“Their love story has to end in flames!” she said. “It just has to, it just wouldn’t be right!”
The movie has been described as a criminal love story, and as “When Harry Met Sally on benzedrine.”
In another interview, Robbie said that she’s sucker for a love story.
“I think people enjoy seeing two characters who, in Harley and Joker’s case, would die for each other,” she said. “It’s kind of romantic in a messed up way.”
Alongside Robbie, actor Jared Leto is set to reprise his role as the most controversial take on the Clown Prince of Crime to date, which takes the purple-and-green motif and brings in a gold grill and some very on-the-nose tattoos. He played a small role in the Suicide Squad movie that didn’t do much to assuage fans who were suspicious of the very edgy take on the character, but the movie did very well for Warner Bros., so it makes sense that they’d want to pair the two actors together again.
The Joker & Harley movie doesn’t yet have a title, and it’s among the many DCEU movies that doesn’t have a director or release date attached. Note that this is not the also-recently-announced Joker origin story being produced by Martin Scorsese.
