After spending a week amassing preorders, Apple’s iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are officially available in-store and at carrier locations across the globe. The devices arrive following Apple’s big event on September 12, which saw the company introduce a slew of new products, including the highly anticipated iPhone X.

Neither the iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus are Apple’s “premiere” smartphones this year. On a cursory glance, they don’t appear much different from what Apple introduced in 2016—devices, incidentally, that sold like gangbusters during the busy holiday period. But the newest releases feature a few notable upgrades that make them worth consideration.

Apple’s new phones both feature powerful guts, upgraded camera technology, and support for wireless charging, the latter of which has been a long time coming. For longtime iPhone owners, that feature alone is enough to make Apple’s smartphone feel completely new.

Although, if you ask around, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus aren’t getting much love from Apple fans—not with the iPhone X looming. And it makes sense, especially from the perspective of diehard tech enthusiasts. While the technology inside the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus is exciting, their design pales in comparison to the iPhone X, and that makes a huge difference.

Of course, the iPhone 8 and iPhone Plus are relatively affordable compared to the iPhone X. Either way, early reviews of both the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have been largely positive, so you’re getting a good device no matter which new iPhone you go with.
