This is the ‘One’ Punisher trailer you shouldn’t miss

Netflix has been teasing us with bits and pieces of the upcoming Punisher series for months. A teaser here, some episode titles there, a couple set photos. Two things we haven’t had yet, though, are a proper trailer and a release date. Today, Netflix is remedying… one of those. Here’s the official trailer for Marvel’s The Punisher.

The trailer has the series picking up where we left Frank. He may have taken his direct revenge by the end of his arc in season 2 of Daredevil, but he’s no less pissed off and no less committed to his mission. With revenge out of the way, Castle “uncovers a conspiracy that runs far deeper than New York’s criminal underworld,” involving government organizations and very powerful people. “As the Punisher, he must discover the truth about injustices that affect more than his family alone.”

If it isn’t obvious from this trailer, this is going to be a dark, violent show.

“This season is much darker as it goes, it gets darker and darker and more visceral,” said Jon Bernthal when speaking to Entertainment Weekly. “The show takes you on this journey of Frank becoming more and more human again, and then shutting off and shutting off and going back to what works for him, and the place where he kind of belongs, and I think that’s a place of solitude and darkness and destruction. It’s going to get as dark and as brutal a place as you’ve ever seen in the Marvel world, I can promise you that.”

The trailer itself has some of the slickest editing we’ve seen in a while. Taking a cue from Suicide Squad‘s “Ballroom Blitz” trailerPunisher‘s big reveal is set to Metallica’s epic war ballad ‘One,’ and edited to match it beat for beat. With the pounding drums and guitar, that makes for a brutal two minutes that goes from mournful and sad to intensely violent in a heartbeat.

I’m excited about all the Marvel shows Netflix has coming, but none more than Punisher. Now, can we have a release date? Please?
