Waze for iOS adds integration with popular music streaming service

Waze has added a key feature many fans have been asking for: Spotify integration within the app. Waze and Spotify entered a partnership that promised to integrate their services, and the perk is now arriving to iOS users.

The update directly links up Spotify playback within the Waze app, meaning you won’t have to switch between apps when needing to change a track. A small Spotify icon will appear on the top right-hand corner. Pulling down will conjure up the Spotify playback controls, giving users the ability to play, pause, rewind, skip or add songs. There’s also a “Go To Spotify” button that will take you directly to the app.

To take advantage of the update, Spotify users will have to link up their account with Waze. When users start a trip on Waze, their Spotify music will autoplay.

Among the reasons Waze and Spotify gave for the integration, chief among them was safety while driving. Having Spotify playback controls within Waze eliminates that hassle of switching between two apps, thus minimizing distractions.

The update is rolling out today to iOS users.
