VW unveiled the concept for the I.D. Crozz II and it looks like this is how the future SUVs may play out.
The new concept is a follow-up of the original I.D. Crozz that was introduced in April. VW has refined the design to something that can actually be made in the real world and not just live in concept form. It also borrows from the aesthetic design VW used for the electric bus concept.
Up at the front, VW eschewed the grill for a complete hood finish that looks very modern. Across the front runs a straight LED light that connects the front headlights with a glowing VW logo at the center. The front headlamp is enclosed by a DRL that flanks a U-shaped DRL inside housing the main laser light.
The same design is kept on the back side with the high-standing hatch that makes the concept look like a modern crossover.
VW included a gorgeous panoramic sunroof that runs from the front to the back. It’s not as crazy as the one Tesla included in the Model X, but VW’s version looks safer in case your car flips over during an accident with the A and C pillars anchoring the glass.
The I.D. Crozz II includes weirdly awesome sliding back doors. This is normally something you’d see in a minivan, but the fact that it’s in a futuristic concept, and a good-looking one at that, makes it a cool detail. The sliding doors open up to the spacious back seats.
Inside, the concept fits four passengers. The steering wheel looks awkward with a flat design rather than the standard round wheel, but it is a concept after all. Right above it is an all-digital instrument cluster and the center console display is off to the side closer to the passenger.
Specs wise, the I.D. Crozz II will feature two electric motors (one for the front and back) and a 225kWh battery can reach 112 miles per hour and charges 80-percent in 30 minutes. The range on the 225wKh battery was not disclosed.
VW is hoping to have 23 electric vehicles by 2025. It likely won’t be the I.D. Crozz II, but it’s still really cool to see what sort of design VW may embrace for its future EVs.
