The fate of the software on a number of Motorola phones has been decided. The company shared a list of phones that will receive software updates for Android 8.0 Oreo starting this fall. While the expected 2017 arrivals are on there, Motorola is also guaranteeing a couple phones from 2016 to be upgraded as well.
Here are the phones getting Oreo:
- Moto Z, Moto Z DROID, Moto Z Force DROID, Moto Z Play, Moto Z Play DROID
- Moto Z2 Force, Moto Z2 Play
- Moto X4
- Moto G5, Moto G5 Plus, Moto G5S, Moto G5S Plus
The Moto Z2 Force and Moto Z2 Play are likely first to get the software update, and the rest should be expected to receive Oreo near the end of the year or in early 2018.
Google already confirmed which of its partners will bring Android 8.0 Oreo to new and existing devices, but not many of them have shared specifics. The partners have to evaluate which phones and tablets are popular enough to have resources allocated toward work on the software update being implemented. It’s a long and costly process, so not all high-end and mid-range phones released in the last twelve months are guaranteed to get Oreo.
Motorola joins HTC, Nokia, and a few others in giving a list of phones and a timetable.
